I'm just ordering some replacement bits and forgot to check the fuel hose size.

It's for a 2.0 CU Aircooled T25.

I am replacing the pipe from the fuel pump to the fuel tank.

Any idea how long and what diameter the union is on the Fuel tank?

8mm??

Cheers
Martyn

I would think that in common with most older VWs the orignal rubber braided hose to the fuel pump would be the one that is an unusual size.
It's either 5.6mm or 5.8mm. :)

I've just done mine this week and i just took a cut off down to the shop and asked for same again.

One point t note is that my tank to filter section was wider than the filter to pump section. I had to go back for a 1 foot length to finish the job.

When I replaced my fuel hose the GSF staff hadn't a clue what size it should be & they sold me 7mm which was too big! I bought the correct stuff at a motor spares place in Bolton.

The Blue, how did you remove the factory fitted clamp/crimp that secures the hose to the outlet pipe on the tank without damaging the metal pipe?

Hacksaw! just cut diagonally across the clip somewhere. Have before cut the top of the crimped bit off when i couldn't reach.

I used the wider pipe from the tank to the filter (about 8 inch) and used the steps on the filter inlet/outlet to go onto the next size.

im sure we always use 6mm....... but 5.6mm is close enough.

Same size right through? Is that just later models? mines a CU engine.

its slightly bigger at the tank outlet, before the filter.
but the question was from pump to filter wasnt it?

The inlet/oultet on the plastic inline fuel filter are the same diameter so that would lead me to believe that originally the fuel hose was one size right through. On my van built in October 1983 (Reg.Jan 1984) the fuel hose from the filter to the engine bay has been replaced with plastic pipe.

When I went to Frank Edwards the long established motor factors in Bolton he informed me that the braided fuel hose comes in 7mm & 8mm. The so called 6mm is not actually 6mm but 5.8mm. Another 80-90er recently mentioned 5.6mm so maybe I am +0.2mm out with the size. It is probably referred to as 6mm even though it isn't. :)
