Hi folks
Got a 1980 2ltr Devon with side elevating roof.What size caravan store will fit inside the roof?

I think some of you have fitted these to your Devons so any feed-back would be brill.

How does a 'caravan store' fit inside a side hinged roof?

I've just fitted an awning channel to my Devon roof to acommodate a sunscreen and/or a stand alone awning.

I would be most interested in how a 'caravan store' shade is fitted inside the roof space!

Tex the roll out is fitted to a awning rail screwed to the roof and theres just enough room for it when the roof is down ....

ps they wont fit under a front lifting poptart such as a reimo or a westie

Nice one Mr Onion, I will see if I can get hold of crazy diamond. Just out of intrest how did you secure the awning rail to the roof. I was thinking of using rivets but I dont know if they would be strong enough

My awning rail is fitted to the lifting roof part (stainless steel screws through fibreglass roof, into small rubber backing blocks). This gives me two options whilst in the S of F, if it's a blazingly hot day we can have the roof up and use the figure of 8 fittings on the gutter for the 2 window sunshade and or free standing awning. If it is not so hot we leave the roof down and use the awning rail for the inverted L shape sunshade (which takes about 5mins to erect...but I'm working on the erection time).

The sunshade needs more height than the F S Awning to clear the slider door top, hence the awning rail.

Just in case anyone is interested I made a roll-up awning which fits under the side elevatiing roof - fabric is waterproof rubbery nylon (like boat covers or good tent ground sheet) and poles are aluminium from an old tent). Here's a pic anyway:

Very nice looking job Keith, looks similar in construction to the one I bought commercially. Apart from mine having a front panel, it also uses frame poles like yours.

It's attached to the roof just above the gutter with a length of aluminium awning track. Sewn onto the edge of the fabric is a length of corded awning strip (you can get it off the roll from caravan shops), which slides into the track. We leave it in situ, ready to roll out quickly and keep the blazing glare of the sun at bay (or the rain out of the sliding door).
Maybe I should take a few more detail photos and do a bit for the wiki?

From memory I think mine is 2800mm long and is a Fiamma Caravan Store, it closes down perfectly provided you take a little time folding the concertina roof when shutting down. I hope the picture works I dont have much joy with these on this forum. Maybe someone will E D I T the code for me.
