Hi

As the title says, I am a Syncro numpty. I have owned many T3's, but all 2WD and I don't have a clue about 'the dark side'!

I have recently been given the opportunity to buy a T3 Syncro which looks to be a very good example. No body rust at all, Projekt Zwo front and rear bumpers, rear spare wheel carrier etc etc. I have not received pictures of the interior yet, but I would imagine it is a Multivan.
She is a 16" with a 110TDI, and from what I can see is in fine fettle.
I asked about whether the gearbox had been changed at all to cope with the extra power / torque from the 110, but apparently it still has the original box.
Firstly is this ok, or will this cause problems long term? Also he says it is a four speed with one 4WD gear. Is this normal? As you can tell I know nothing!
Could be a bargain or a turd box. I need help. I can pm you some pics in the next few days, as the guy has promised to email me some of the interior and exterior in more detail.

Lots of info on here and in the syncronauts main site (logo in the tiop right of the forum pages)
Box.. depends on what size tyres and what the actual gearing is (gearbox code would be handy), but prob still marginal (runs out of revs as TDi dont like revs)
All that extra torque from the TDi will work the box hard too so its always a good idea to have the box refreshed (Aidan is your man)

Yes they are a "4 speed" + "G gear" its very much like the 5 speed, but with 1st being a low "offroad" gear..

If the box or diff isn't noisy and changes Ok (when its warmed up and you get used to it), it drives smoothly and nicely without shaking, steers and stops well, then you've probablyfound a good one.

Checking the VC normally requires a quick drive up a wet grass slope to ensure the front is pulling its weight...

If you want it and can afford it, and sounds like the body is a good'un, just check it cruises relatively relaxed at whatever speed you expect from it (65~75 mph is about right) then go get it

bought a 16" just before xmas. BEWARE they become very adictive i`ve never got so attached to a vehicle as quickly as i have with the syncro. hope to have mine for a very long time to come.

I totally agree.I brought mine back from Germany just over a year ago and just love it. The whole family does.We hope to be together for many years to come.

off topic - but the syncronauts look to be meeting up in a field in buckinghamshire for the weekend of the 27th April; bit of driving, camping and generally comparing notes.

There will likeley be a fair few vans with different set ups, standard and enhanced and it would be a good place for anyone with any interest to come and see what all fuss is about.

Clive should be putting up a flyerr on here anytime now.

Ok! If she is in as good a condition mechanically as the body is, what sort of money should I be looking to pay for a LHD 16" Syncro Mulitvan with P2 bumpers etc and no rust? Obviuosly don't want to offer too much!

Difficult, Any syncro camper seems to get to £3700 on ebay, but really nice ones can be £7K to £10K. There was even a very special one on here for £25K!

Take your pick!
