Hi , Mikey , the "vanagon" method certainly works , been doing it kinda like that for 9 years when needed-- i reverse the whiskavan onto two ramps , which is the most difficult part for me , on a gravel driveway ;open all up , fill , squeeze a bit , close rad bleed when coolant starts to show ; when exp bottle is at correct level ,stop and check top up bottle .
BTW did you sort your rust ?

Thanks jaylo, will give the vanagon method a go on the drive at the wknd. Did you have any probs getting all the old out. The Heater Matrix pipes seem to be a popular low point for draining.
Have ordered 4 arches, two steps, and two rear cnr peices and a lower OS repair panel from Schofields.
Van is in with Niel at Barnyards - Beauly from 21st April for a month - to some back shotblasted, panels replaced, other rot sorted, painted and ready for bits putting back on.
Ready for a trip through the Western isles in May and a more solid (!) future

No probs , Mikey ,and heater matrix is the place . Great Scott , did barnyards give you an estimate ? Second mortgage expenditure , sounds like ! ( be interested in final price after )........
i just bought a welder ......
i`m still trying to find out , before i commit to welding etc , whether my engine needs replacing , as the compression readings appear low to me ( actually , at "wear limit , " acc. Haynes manual ) --if I replace , it will be an elitevw dg swap, with new s/s exhaust from jp, then gasure for lpg , then back home .
BUT- still unsure whether actually needed , so have you ever used synchronutz ? in shotts , much nearer than elite in basildon . They may not be so familiar with the 1.9 petrol , however -- wdyt ?
