My T25 has a Aircooled v.w. 2 ltr type 4 engine in it. Always serching for more power I know that the heads from a Porsche 914 are better due to the larger holes. is this the case for the 1.7 1.8 and 2.0 porsche 914/4 heads or just for the 2.0 ltr. I know the V.w. 1.8 and 2.0ltr heads are interchangable but are the 1.7 and 2.0 ltr
Thanks Cliffardo

You cant use the "early" heads on a "late" engine, well it is possible but so many things against it.. (Exhaust, cooling tin etc etc..) + finding a pair of the "porsche" heads in good nick is nigh on impossible..

also, alone it wont give you the power you are looking for..

its all about combination of parts..

without changing to twin 40's or similar it would be worthless...

Ideally, refresh the engine, add in a new cam and lifters (as its prob tired) and have the heads rebuilt properly with new seats fitted.. slight clean up for improved flow, twin 40's, perhaps a better exhaust if you have alternative heating and a proper set up on a rolling road.. the difference will be amazing.. a few on here have that kind of setup..

There is a chap selling a good set of porsche heads on Volkszone forum. But I think they have a different shape exhaust port, (oval as opposed to square) At least that is what I was led to believe

If you take a look at the heat exchanger flanges, you'll see that they are only tacked on in 2 or 3 places. Meaning that the flanges from an old set o9f early heat exchangers could be fitted to late heat exchangers.v

Beware though. The flanges and heat exchanger tube are different metals so it may need someone with high welding skills to fix them together properly. Maybe stainless weld?

In which case, I have a nearly new pair of 1800 (big valve, not small valve) heads for sale.

Another problem is the lentgh of the heat exchangers.. longer on the T25..

The std heads can be improved a lot easier than fitting the "porsche" heads

Only the bodies are longer, the pipes have the same spacing.
I know, I use early heat exchangers on late heads regularly.
