Just put extended bolts n stuff on for alloys. Rears were prof pressed in, Iwatched. Wheels fitted with new tyres and ballanced. Took bus for a run and noticed when i braked, the peddal was bobbing up and down Ive experenced tis before on a van that sat for years, but mine only sat 2 wks. Any clues???

Awrite Kev? Aye, 86 c reg, but noticed new castle nut on back, all new a couple of years ago. pads shoes discs calipers drums. Last mot when mechanic yanked on handbrake on rollers it lifted the van right out and on to garage floor, he was impessed on theyre performance.

sorry pal.. I just spotted your bus on the garage

have you had a wheel off and spun it up to see if anything's up with the disc?

was the screw removed from the drums to fit the alloys..

just thinking out loud here..

.any one else?

possbile incorectly torqued front wheel bolts pulling the disks out of true? I had a squeak from my front brakes non stop after I fitted my whitewalls, I took the wheels off to check and found nought wrong, and it went when I refitted the wheels and did the nuts up corectly.. Something to check I guess..

Aye, wee bolts were removed before this, to check them for fitting. Dident put them back in so bus has been running wi origonal wheels without them, with no probs, even lined up the holes while fitting on drums with new bolts on. Discs are all straight and seem fine.

i had exactly the same with mine when i did my rear studs as you have, it was something to do with disturbing the rear brakes, it felt as if the rear drums had oval,d, after a couple of weeks it was all back to normal and never done it again....bizzarre  but true,

Thanks for the good replys,Ihave never used a torque wrench, I just keep tightening until its tight, but i did notice with the alloys, it seemed like ages of nearly tight till it got tight ( if you know what i mean) But i thought, where you screw the bolts in shouldnt interfere with the disc, Im baffled on this one. Rick

Just a thought after your reply, Lambrettalee, never thought of the drums, tomorrow i can elliminate or identifiey the drums by holding the button and pulling on the handbrake while driving. At least ill know if its the front or rear. :)

considering the bolts screw into the disc, then yes, they can interfere with the disc. they need to be torqued corectly to 180Nm, otherwise you risk distorting the disks. I just did them to 'FT' and thats when I had brake noise. did them right in the correct pattern and they were fine.

Ok i tried the handbrake so its not the back. Ill undo the fronts and torque to correct pressure at wkend. fingers crossed. Thanks everone. Rick

your not eliminating the wheel cylinders from the equation by pulling on the handbrake, the pressure by pulling up the handbrake and actual pedal pressure would be no where near, maybe you have a seized/sticky/dodgy wheel cylinder, jack the back up spin it and get someone to push the pedal...see what she does..
