Hi there VW Campers,

I was wondering if anyone has had their campervan windows tinted and where the best places are to get them done?

I was thinking about it but I'm really not sure if I should go for it.

I've seen windows where they are coloured and they change half way up the window. They look pretty cool, anyone know how much they cost?

I'd like to see some photos and know roughly how much if you don't mind passing the info my way? Then I can make an informed decision. I suppose it saves you closing your curtains on the camp sites and they look really cool as well?

I done it and would reccomend a lesser tint all round. Had both on the last van and found the limo rears were good for privacy but crap for parking esp at night in the rain...
Def gettin them on my new van tho as I miss the privacy!

I tinted mine myself.Its not that bad a job to do but you really need to make sure your windows are really clean and thet you take your time.Mine are by no means prefect but look OK and it only cost me £20 to do. I agree with PEET over not going to dark. I used dark smoke which I think is dark enough

I use my van for windsurfing so need to get in and out of a wetsuit, the tinted windows mean I don't have the shut all the curtains.
And I also think they look pretty cool

Going to tint my orange bus myself, got a £260 quote a couple of years ago, and was going to do it this year, but my new van's got Limo tint on and the guy i bought it off did it himself - it looks good. Although it looks the mutts nutts, as Peet says - it's a bit too dark at night.

Wanting to get mine done 2. Was on about doing it myself but can't seem to find any tint dark enought. Would pefer to get it done prof but cash is always the stinger........lol.

I did my own for the sum of about 40quid. Couple of rolls of limo black. Take your time. It takes longer to clean the windows than to fit the tint. Use a hairdryer too. Rear window is the hardest as it is curved. Scalpel is a must. I am really pleased with mine. Better than a 300 quid quote!!

Here's mine with approx 35% tint, if you have a white van then looks good if the area in between is painted matt black. IMO.

Hi,
I have been interested in doing this for a little while, I was just wondering whether most people take the windows out or not. I can see the benefits so that the film goes right to the edge of glass but it seems like taking all the windows out that have been in there for over 20 years might be a massive pain in the ass!

I didn't take my windows out but with a sharp new scalpel you can cut right out to the rubbers. you can't see the edges outside and barely see them inside. Instructions say to lightly spray the sticky side of the film with water to allow sliding into place. I made the mistake of not using enough water and the film dried too quickly. (Cost me another roll as I was then short). I would say use plenty of water in an empty glass cleaner spray bottle. Even if it takes longer to dry what odds?

Left my windows in. A sharp knife was supplied with the tinting film.It also recommended adding a bit of washing up liquid to the water and using plenty of water on both the window and film. Any excess water is then removed along with any air bubbles

Mine were all out when I had the respray.

Yes the best thing I did on my van. I went for limo black thats pretty much the darkest you can get. Glad I did. you can pull in anywhere and no one knows your there (shut the curtains just to keep early light out) Ive parked all over. back streets are great just put a sheet across just behind the seats to keep people from peeping in. dont bother with mild tints Imho it's better to go darker. i know alot of people say it's hard to look out the back/side windows when it's dark but how do you think folk cope with a panel van ?

did mine myself for less than £30, mirrored stuff of ebay, swine of a job but I love the "chrome all over" look, looks the b@llocks in the sun.

left the glass in, stanley knife and lots of soapy water in a spray.
I put a lighter tint in the back, to aid vision.
once the curtains are shut (no light from behind the tint) you are invisable, handy for having a quick kip at lunch time in work
