Removing tinware - Use of an impact driver?

My engine is out and I have a recon unit coming next week.

I am trying to get the tinware off, currently have half the screws out, still soaking with plus gas regularly.

I was wondering if I should try an impact driver to help shift the last few?

Never owned one before and like to know if I will just strip the heads or break the alloy case

I was thinking of using it sensibly not beating it with a hammer.

Tinware looks OK, apart from the rear piece (above the exhaust which is only 50% left and needs replacing

I'd use a small blow torch and mole grips.

I find using a good fitting old screwdriver and whacking that with a hammer while on the screw head, shocking the screw in its thred usually works well. then un screw as normal. Just remember there only going in to ally so take it easy

Ive used impact drivers in the past but found they either chew the screw head (only soft on tinwear) or the bits they come with break up.

And don't forget (in common with many bolts and scews) that sometimes tightening up first will shift them.

great advice guys.

I will try those and avoid the temptation of adding a new tool to my cabinet

i have a big screwdriver that a 10mm spanner fits onto the shaft, i find it helps no end with these sort of jobs....... as has been said before, a few sharpe taps with a knocking stick, and good even pressure from above.

also try brake fluid , it penetrates very well, often better than wd or duckoil.
Its about the only thing derv should be used for as well.....other than for tractors
