Hi all,

Interesting one. Just picked up my camper and didn't think the temp gauge was working as it never rose much. It stayed in the white column on the left, pretty much in the middle for most of the trip but moved to the upper edge when hitting some hills.

Low and behold, the water coolant level went from hi to lo from Plymouth to Bristol.....

I really want to be able to keep a good gauge on the engine temperature, but as the engine was changed out for a Peugot 305 1.9D, I think it's not working properly.

I have absolutely no idea how to even start on this problem to get it all working properly. The temp indicator is the original for the T25.

Any ideas on what to look for?

this usually happens when the wire to the sender is connected to the peugeot sender unit.
as you describe is how my original conversion was!
i now drill/tap the brass pug sender and fit a vw sender so everything matches.
short out the wire going to the sender and whatch the temp gauge, if it goes off the scale then this is the problem.
let me know ,have the tap/drill ect ready.

I see your talking about different engines in the T25. Please could you tell me or point me to more info. We bought a new petrol engine for our camper 2 years ago - its not been good-4 weeks camping only and now the heads been taken off for suspected gasket leak and the cylinder sleeve has slipped out the block with the head - and the mechanics are scratching their heads promising a big bill. We are feeling depressed after all the money.

Reading around the internet it seems the T25 is troublesome and requires a dedicated mechanical owner ?

Is a new type of engine a practical choice for the non mechanic.

Bulk... what engine do you have.. it sounds like you still have the waterboxer if the mech has taken a head off and a cyl has come out... (its not the first thing I would do if there was a problem withthe engine!!)

If so, you need to post in the tech section as this is for alternative engines (as not what was fitted by vw) Describe the symptoms of what went wrong.. and who did the engine..
