Just spent a frustrating morning driving around Aberdeen looking for someone to weld my rear wings on. there seems more chance of Aberdeen playing in the Champions league, than me finding someone to do it.

if I can get someone to even look at the van (they run a mile when I show them the van ) they start to quote how busy they are or while scratching beards they inhale deeply and start to tell me how much they charge an hour..........£35 by the way.

I was also informed that my front step would need some metal before they could weld. Is there such a panle that extends from around the fuel filler along bottom of the door? Or is there a panel that can be bought for the step itself? I am 6'4'' so I just slide my bum onto the seat and shimmy along, but my wife uses it and doesn't want to put her foot through it.

Any help would be muchly great

Two separate panels, one for the wheel arch and one for the step. We got them from Alan Schofield (but haven't had them fitted yet) but that website seems to be down at the moment:

P.S. the step costs £18.50 and the arch is £33.

Ding dang - I have been down to see a local guy to me in Beauly (I know it is a trip from Aberdeen but if you need the job doing.....

He has quoted £250 per corner (excl panels) to do step and wing (fronts) and rear arches and the little corner bit behind the bumper.

That is bead blasting the rust off, cutting out - replacing with Schofield panels, prep, fill. prime and paint. He thinks a day per corner (Barnyards Bodyshop - classic car restorer and highly recommended).

He has the van for a month from mid April to do the work - I did book him in Jan.
I intend to take some pics of progress and post in garage.

I am waiting for two places to get back to me, but I feel sure I will be heading to Beauly. I am off for a wee trip at the end of this month, can you send me the details and I will pop in on him on my way home. I am taking my boys to the Glencoe area, hope it stops snowing by then
