2.1DJ "Kangarooing" and Buzzing Noise from Underne

Hi Guys,

Had a look in the wiki and in the first few pages of the forum and I couldnt really find anything similar.

Van - 1988 Westfalia Multivan LHD 2.1DJ with 108,000 on the clock.

My T25 is "kangarooing" :( , especially when cruising at lower speeds and when approaching a junction. I thought initially this could be due to the Fuel Delivery since I only just bought the van and it was standing for a long time with basically NOTHING in the fuel tank! I figured a bit of crap is stuck in there somewhere - but wanted a second opinion - let me know if I'm not being specific enough.

Secondly (not sure if this is related), after a few minutes of driving around, there's a buzzing noise coming from underneath about half way along (roughly where the eber is), sounds a bit like a motor running, and it stops when I turn the engine off. What is this? Should I be worried? Are the problems related?

Cheers guys, any help I can get is much appreciated!

MultiPhil :D

Electric fuel pump perhaps? It could well be your problem!

Could be - unfortunately this is my first T25 and I'm not sure how they work. I really should have bought a Haynes Manual! :P

under the sill, (offside) there will be the fuel pump and a large filter/Accumilator, this will be your buzzing, when the pump isnt getting enough fuel its noisy - this is normal, when its full you will hardly hear it

im guessing you have either water in the tank, or crap blocking the fuel line out

be carefull, the pump is high pressure, de pressure it before undoing any pipes.

cool, thanks.

Do you think this could explain the crap performance and the kangaroo effect? :P

Cheers :D

phil,
dunno if you have been reading lots before posting......but Mocki is usually damn good with advice. Go get your hands dirty! You will at least learn summat about the van....even if you don't fix it this time!

oh, and if it don't work, peeps will need specifics of what you have done, and the behaviour van exhibits.

Good luck

Fixed! :D

Turned out there was a bloody great hole in the petrol tank and it was leaking out everywhere! Plugged the hole and now its running fine again 8)

Must have been drawing air in that caused the noise I guess.
