Injection pump timing- 1Y

Hi

Reading through Bentleys tells me the 1.6td pump should be timed at 0.78-0.88mm with the dial guage

Anyone know if the 1Y injector pump should be timed at the same, or is there an alternative measurement

No's from the 1Y pump if it helps

these mean nothing to me so not quite sure what actual pump

which gives setting value of .80mm
Can anyone tell me any different or is it the best one for the 1Y pump?

Thanks Andy. I remember you said on a previous thread about your preference for pump timing slightly advanced.
I take it 1mm is slightly advanced could you confirm

Yes 1mm is advanced, most are ok at more than this but 1mm is safe, i prefer timing by ear.

Thinking of checking/tweaking my pump timing as it's not been touched since I installed the engine. To advance the timing do I raise or lower that value, eg. is 1.05mm lift more advanced than 1mm ?

Doing it 'by ear' what would I be listening for ?

Yes higher than lift means more advanced. Doing it by ear is not good unless you have lots of experience of doing it.

what a difference a day makes!
been timing the pump today and cant believe the improvement. very happy indeed and sounds so much smoother.
Had to do the job statically due to the design of the 1y pump where the adjustment is on the pully rather than on the pump.

tried timing by ear but kept dropping the spanners so used my hands instead.....would now insert one of them smiley things but dont know how

To lock a 1.6td injection pump for a cambelt change a pin is inserted through the sprocket and engages the plate behind it.I have a replacement 1Y engine of which i will replace the cambelt but i notice the injection pump sprocket is diffrent.Can some one tell me how to do this on a 1y .Thanks for any replies.

Same way but pin is smaller
