Hi I have read my just campers manual many times and I would like to check with anyone that understands these well, the engine blew a head gasket.
I remove the pug from the bell housing and line the mark up on the flywheel to a indicator inside, then I insert a special tool that I dont have to line up the fuel pump , but have turned one up on a lathe that is not a bad fit, then I use another special tool to line up the cam shaft that I dont have, the cam shaft lining up sounds as if the slot has to be parallel to the top of the head face, if this is correct I have made a tool to fit into the slot which has a top to it that I can check to see how parallel it is with slips, sorry yhis is so long cheers for the advice.

Exactly right so far Kevino....way to go !!!
balance you cam shaft tool with feeler gauges either side to ensure tdc accuracy at No1 Cyl....line it all up and off you go. good luck

I !...... Pointer in gearbox sight hole lines up with notch on clutch assembly with bar slid through back end of cam and equal feeler gauge measurements equals TDC.

make yourself a tool that will lock the cam pulley , easy enuff - just needs to locate in two of the large pulley holes - use this to hold pulley steady while you undo centre nut DO NOT use the cam locking bar to tighten/undo the nut - you will break the cam.as chap above said , get cam centred spot on by inserting feeler gauges -to the same 'value' under each end of the locking bar.
have done now done cam timing on last two engines - they were both out . performance wasnt noticably changed but engine ran/idled/started smoother and easier.
