Oil filter sandwich plate thing

Demon tweeks have got listed in thier catalouge a sandwich plate that goes between your oil filter and block with 2 takeoffs for oil pressure and temp.. will these be ok on wasserboxers? if so, anyone know what size/type thread the oil filter stub is?

(I'd link the product but its not on their website yet)

'tis what I though, especially as the prices start at 24.99 and they all come with the 2 takeoffs and 2 blanking plugs.. Just got to find out if anyone would recomend against it and what size filter thread the 'boxers have and I'll get on the phone to the demon people..

Oil take off is all well and good, really you want a thermostatic one, which only starts letting oil out to the cooler once the oil is hot.
Overcooling oil is bad as the detergents and that in the oil need to be hot for them to work.
You could do more harm that good.

Yep, a take off plate is probably one of the cheaper items, specially with no thermostat, go add up the rest of the bits!

Didn't really want a oil cooler one, DT do one for just sensor take off's, rather than oil cooler take off's..

If you have the late DG case with the oil pressure take off by the pulley, you could ditch that sender and get a VDO 10x1mm temp sender fitted in the same hole. Just earth the wire that went to the pressure switch. It should then be possible to buy a little adapter that would allow you to fit a pressure gauge sender under the push rod tubes.

I don't understand why you would want pressure and temp, though. The water temp gauge is a good indicator of engine heat and the oil pressure gauge would tell you if anything was going really wrong in the oil department.

Agreed, but i'd still rather keep the standard oil warning system as well, as mine is in good working order as far as I can tell. I could get an extension T-piece and fit it to the sender under the head, but I though that the sandwich plate would be easier.

You can get dual sender units with conections for both a gauge and the standard light.

VDO make them, I've run out, but demon tweeks and JK sell them.

Actually oil temp is a good thing on the WBX.. I have used some "telltale" temp stickers that I know work quite well on my oil filter and have seen as high as 128degC and thats a 1.9 DG syncro with the factory oil cooler.. water temp never got high and the fan didnt run for more than a minute or 2 here and there... it was in 35+ degC ambient temps though... :wink:

Where did you get the temp stickers from, Toomanytoys? I wouldn't mind seeing what my 2ltr Aircooled gets up to when I'm not watching!
