Bit of help needed if you dont mind.

First of all the reason why, I live in London and have a a perfectly good camper i don't want to sell. I have a Merc Automatic Sprinter for work that last year i spent £1600 getting the transmission rebuilt that again i would be happy to keep. However due to this new emissions thing that comes in in 2010 my sprinter falls short of the regulations and i am forced to get rid of it. I have now got 2 years to use and get rid of the Sprinter as round these parts the longer i keep it the closer it becomes to be worth scrap.

I need a new van to use for work and i can claim the cost of it against my tax i have had a look at newer vans and to be honest it feels like i am scrapping a van to get one the same only newer and paying loads for the honour and there isn't any soul in any of them.

Since buying my t25 and getting right into it the thought of a syncro has always been tapping the back of my brain so much that in the past i kind of wished my van wasn't so good so i could sell it and get one, and the fact i hang around with Jake every now and then hasn't helped i can tell you

Soooooooo as the tax man is paying i recon this would be a good time to get one. Thing is its got to all ready be done or in good nick as getting a rough one and trying to put through a respray through say might ring a few bells. I know what i want but its just a case of it finding me and i am in no real rush as i can still use the sprinter for now.

I was thinking about a tristar but all that carpet and cloth i am worried about all the mud when off roading.........er i mean dust from my work clothes might shag it up. I have always loved the 16'' but i can only dream of a rust free Swedish number and to be extra picky ideally a NATO back on it would do the trick. It has to be a petrol to get over the new emissions regulations and as i am more familiar with the 2.1dj due to my camper having one. I would be willing to swallow the cost of an lpg conversion myself if it was already done it would be pukka. (plus any engine parts for the camper can be put through the books if they are the same engine ) i would like it to ride high, and i am not to keen on red i have looked on German ebay and one or two other syncro suppliers sites but they all seem a bit well you know.


Does this van exist and can anyone point me in the right direction before i drag Jake Stephens across the whole of Germany in vain at the very least any links to point me in the right direction so i feel comfortable enough to buy one when i see it thinking i haven't bought the first one i have seen.

Based on the fact you want a solid petrol, and the fact most dealers selling such things have ones with headlamp washers, I'd be heading to Sweeden, as thats where they would have come from!

Having seen CJ's latest singlecab workshop thingy it looks worth it and from what he said encredably easy to import, easyer than germany as the car is automaticly insured for EU use by anyone if its got a valid numberplate.

You eather buy one cheep from the a*** end of no where and import it yourself (take a week and call it a holiday), or buy one thats been brought somewhere slightly better (though north Germany/Belgum is still a fair way) by a dealer and pay extra for their efforts. German market works vans will probubly be diesel and just have rust added to the usual issues of battered fittings and worn machanicals that any old comercal would likely have.

thanks glen all i need is to know the avenues to explore to find such a van in Sweden. actually i am going to norway to drop a Volvo off with a mate in a few weeks and we were going to stop off in Sweden. a plan maybe hatching

If you find anything in Europe, want it but cant take time off work (this goes for anyone on here) i can go over and drive it back..(only if its all sorted paper work wise and legal).just the expenses etc, i LOVE driving in Europe (i have for many years).

I know lots of people come across stuff in Germany etc but think its too much effort to bring it back..i dont mind driving owt back, most places have cheap flights over. My German is fine and often drive 1000+ miles in a day

Just let me know if i can be any use..

patrik @ www.vw-tristar.com appear to sensible money and he can arrange shipping to uk. have dealt with him and a top trader and very helpful . always got at least half a dozen for sale.

Just a thought, how about a double seat in Russels single cab that was at DF...........I know its derv, but look who fit it....

alas the regs people say no otherwise i would have bought it at dubfreeze. it is a really nice van after all and just right for usage, not to smashed that it is ugly and not to shiny to be used.

thanks for all the links and offers folks and its funny how much you miss on initial views of sites only to be reminded and have another look and see something you missed lots of pm's too .

i am off with a certain someone to pick up a certain something for someone else in Germany in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to meeting mike of busman.be on the way back with the something for someone. in the mean time i have a couple of others to look at.
