Hi everyone,

I have been having a good look around the underside of my new bus. Im amazed at how clean and tidy it is- its spotless... Apart fom (and its a big 'apart from') the anti roll bar has sheared. Look at the pic below...

Im guessing i need a whole new anti-roll bar?
If so do any of you pro's know where i can get one from at a good price? I am in Leeds.

I always use GSF or Euro Car Parts for my golf and scirocco but they cant help me with this.

Any help appreciated

its just the link bar you need to replace.im sure gsf do them.if not your local vw dealership will get you one.i remember helping mocki replace one on his van at the last tech weekend.they are a bit orf a bu**er to get on.

I had to do this job last weekend, not too bad but I had a couple of problems.

VW have now discontinued the cranked style of link, GSF are the only other people who I could find with stock (although the guy at the Leicester branch told me I was getting the last two in the company - I hope he was wrong)

There are two sizes of ARB , 20mm and 22mm Make sure you get the correct bushes - I got the smaller ones by mistake and wasted 2 hours swearing trying to get them to fit.

I found taking the ARB off was easier than fighting with the links in situ, only held on by 4 bolts and the two links - removeable with out jacking the van up.

I used a small puller to detach the link from the bar but if the bar is off I reckon you could get it off by standing on the link and pushing on the ARB.

I got the links back on by pressing the bush into the link in the vice, coating with washing up liquid, laying the link on the floor (check it is the right way round!!!!) and pushing the ARB down into it.

When reassembling the 4 lower bushes don't sit in the TCA very well and there is no thread exposed for the nuts to start on, I used a long bolt to compress the bushes in and left for 30mins (and a well earned cuppa) when unbolted if your quick they keep the shape and allow the nut to go on - you will need the van on its wheels (or jacked up on the suspension arms) and a long prybar to pull the link down. Once the nut is on one turn you can ratchet it up and the bushes pull in nicely. The washers are suppossed to go on with the curve away from the bushes ie ):- NOT (:-

Do you still have the ARB mounts that were the wrong size? Are they for 20mm ARB? If so and you don't need them I could be interested in having them off you - let me know.

Yeah thanks for that mike. That will be a big help come this weekend when i have a go at it.

No probs, allways happy to help others avoid the problems I invariably have when working on anything mechanical.

I have to change the front springs soon - why do you always find something else to fix when doing a simple repair. So I might take some photos and write it up for the wiki if it would be helpful
