New style expansion tank and cap use

Ok so i collected the new bits from VW today
Just a quick question about their use-
The blue cap has the spout for connecting the top up tank to -do you need to disconnect this pipe everytime you want to unscrew the cap of do I just need to get a longer pipe to the top up tank?
Also, with the cap fully tightened the spout is pointing in the wrong direction, is it OK to loosen it off half a turn so that it is the right way round or does it need to be tight for pressurization?

Is it the header tank cap that you're meaning? This one?

If so, I don't think you'll be able to remove it without disconnecting the hose to the top-up/expansion tank. Not sure why it would be pointing in the wrong direction though, but I'd tighten it all the way up and fit a longer hose if I were you, rather than leaving it loosened off a bit.

I took our old bit of hose to Halfords and they found something similar to replace it with, I think it might have been fuel hose though. It was slightly smaller in diameter but went on ok with a bit of lubrication.

as i understand these water cooled contraptions they have 2 tanks. the one you speak of should be full all the time
and pressurised so the cap must be tight otherwise the engine will boil prematurely (sealing coolant under pressure
raises the boiling point) the other tank is the top up tank into which coolant will be pushed when it expands,, this
one has a breather i believe so that it can fill up when the coolant is hot,, then allow coolant back into the header tank to
keep it full when it cools. therefore the cap you mentioned must be tight and sealed.
it's all a bit of a black art like voodooism cos the engine was designed to be cooled by gods own fresh air
