Can I use a CJ Aircooled engine in a T25?

Still looking to sort my engine problem out.

I have been offered a 2.0 CJ engine and wondered if the case is the same as the 2.0 CU, so that I can just bolt all the tin ware on etc.

I am moving over to some dellorto drla's so they should fit fine with short manifolds.

I belives so.. but you MUST use all of the T25 tinware... the T25 heat exchangers are also longer IIRC so you need to use them too... make sure the engine bay seal is in very good nick while you are at it.. Oh and I would steer away from using an 009 dizzy as the curve is all wrong.. see if you can get the std dizzy working well and with a vac takeoff on one of the carbs...

Thanks TTT,

Will be dropping the engine tomorrow and checking all the tin (as well as trying to get it off!!)

Do I need to buy a engine bay seal from JK as they seem a lot of money £64 !! must be cheaper places to buy, but cant find on GSF.

Will try and use orig carb.

it might work provided you get the very late CJ with square exhaust ports. the CU heat exchangers won't fit the oval ports on earler CJ's.

the CJ oil dipstick tube goes through the fanhousing and is connected to the base of oil filler tube with a wee rubber bellows type thing, if you use the CU filler tube then you'll have to think of another way to check the oil level. theoretically it could be possible to drill down from the top of block and use the CU dipstick. i'm not sure that just putting a stick down the filler neck will give a very precise reading.

also the mounting holes on case for rear support bar are slightly different sizes as are the mountings and the bar themselves.

i've converted a few CU's to bay window spec but never the other way round.

the complete original CU electronic ignition system works well on CJ as well.

Hi, I have a CJ engine in my van at the moment. Please be aware that you won't have a great deal of hot air in the cab, you'll have to modify the system a bit and have a fan fitted. The air filter is also high and may knock on the engine cover. Be careful the hot air is removed from the engine bay also or you'll cook the engine.
