my brake pedal began to feel a bit hard the other dayand I thought maybe the brake cable is sticking.I noticed a dragging effect and having to put my toe down to compensate. Then after releasing the pedal there was a strange whistling noise coming from somewhere. The brakes are working ok but the pedal does not fully return. I am thinking it could be the servo but not sure. Any ideas? and if it is the servo what needs to be removed to get at it.

I seem to remember somewhere that there is a small air filter on the brake servo that can become clogged and prevent brakes from fully returning and making them hard to operate. It is essentially an airway to allow air on the opposite side of the vacuum chamber to flow freely. Could be causing problems, or if brake pedal is hard to push down, mabye an air leak in servo vacuum pipe.

fixed my brakes last month had a rock hard pedle on mine and brakes worked ok on investigating found the rear brakes siezed up so i replaced the lot on the rear had a look at the fronts as well needed new calipers as well so replaced the hole system disces pads calipers hoses drums shoes spring kit work realy well now the vans a lot faster and better on fuel shows how siezed they were price was ok to £280 for everything good old ebay

Before you do all the work taking servo out, check the one way servo vacuum valve in engine bay. Located left hand side, pipe coming up from carb manifold, on rubber "t" piece. Make sure you can only blow through it one way. It creates the vacuum for servo...
