As above, does anyone have the wiring diagram for the above
Its for a 1.6TD JX
Trying to figure out if my JX is wired for a rev counter as standard.

thanks for that
now looks like of the info i need is there, if only i could figure it out
is that the 14 pin connector

according to that wiring diagram you gave me solid green wire is for rev counter
I have a solid green cable in the 14 pin connector but no idea if its in the right place

The rev counter claims to be pin T14/9 (as written next to the wire) so it should be the 9th pin of T14 (which is obveously the dash conector, the 14 means it has 14 pins total). If you look very carefully on the connector or socket you should be able to see the pin numbers cast into the plastic, they might only mark pin 1 though.
If you've got this wire its a good start but theres a chance the rest of the loom isn't complete, have a look at the engine bay end to see if anything goes to the altinator. Chances are though the wireing is eather correct and complete or correct but with sections missing, so plug in a [diesel!] revcounter and see what happens, if your lucky it'll work fine (quite likely). If it doesn't work no harm will be done, you'd just need to add the missing wires.

georgeIRL,
I have just had a look at syncroandy's PDF wiring diagram.
Now I have a wasserleaker so there is a slight difference, but your solid green wire at the 14 pin connector (pin 14/9) comes from terminal 'W' on the alternator. (wasserboxer comes from terminal 1 on the coil). The earth for the Rev. counter is through pin 14/3.
I have a clock (not a tacho) so can't tell you how to physically make the connections, but if you can trace the foils on the flexy printed circuit from 14/9 and 14/3 that should show you where it fits I think. IIRC the pin numbers are somewhere on the flexy, or was it the 14 pin plug?
Hope I may have helped just a little, and not confused you, at my age I am always confused!!
While I was typing this, Glen was posting so we are on similar lines.

not related to the rev counter as such, but I have just got my new (second hand) clocks and they do not work as my previous ones didn't. I used to be able to wiggle the wires on the connector to get my other ones to work, is it a simple matter of finding out which wires provide basically the power to the dash as when the clocks dont work nothing on the dash does but when they did everything on the dash did (apart from the temperatur gauge) which had a burnt out track.
any help on which pin number I should be testing on the wiring would be great.

I've rewired my non tacho connector to a tacho one so will post a diagram soon but the PCB does indeed have the pin out functions on it maybe even the pin No.s but sure on that one. If I remember, +ve supply, instrument lighting, clock +ve, temp, oil pressure deffo needed transposing.

Glen + Grun - thanks folks, the wiring diagram also makes more sense to me now.
You right there is a solid green wire in pin location T14/9 which after chasing it runs to the back of the van but is not connected to the alternator, so once I connect that hopefully the system will work fine.
Which is terminal W on the alternator, i cannot see the lettering without taking the alternator out and it would be nicer not to have to do that.
Thanks boys for you help so far.

georgeIRL,
I am not sure re the 'W' terminal, cant't get a look at mine which is the 90A version anyway.
Some alternators have just two terminals B+ and D+
B+ goes to battery Plus and D+ is the one for the ignition light to show when the alternator is charging. IIRC.
I would say just go for the smaller terminal if you can't see. Or wait for someone with more knowledge than this silly old fart.
Clartsonly,
I have a hand written list of the function of the pins at the 14 pin connector that I will type up. I wrote them down when I first investigated my '86 2.1 DJ water leaker several years ago.
Busy this afternoon, later with a cool can of carbonated beverage in my hand, if I can.

well just looked again and there is only 2 terminals so it must be the smaller one but I'll wait and see if anyone can offer more advice, don't want to damage anything, the rev counter cost me enough in the first place!!!

thanks a bunch at least that way I can also try and track the earthing of the socket too.

This is what I wrote for my 14 pin connector several years ago.
Van is 1986 2.1 DJ
PIN
1= grey/blue.. panel lights
2= blue/white.. main beam warning light
3= brown... To earth. German legend is.. 'all gem'
4= I have nothing for this one. German legend is.. 'frei'
5= red.. clock, Live from battery positive via 15A fuse S3
6= yellow/..red water temperature gauge and warning light
7= lilac/black.. fuel gauge and voltage stabilizer
8= black.. from ignition switch terminal 15, Live with ignition on
9= green.. for rev counter from ignition coil terminal 1
10= blue /red.. turn signal repeater
11= blue.. generator warning light
12= yellow.. oil pressure monitor high pressure switch
13= blue/black.. oil pressure monitor low pressure switch
14= I have nothing for this one, German legend is.. diesel/oxs/cat
The above seems to tie in with the wiring diagram in the 'Book of Lies'
1,2,6,7,and 10 are on one page and 5,8,9,11,12,and 13 on the next, with 3 almost at the bottom of this same page. Lies I tell'ee, tis all lies!!
Someone else may be able to add to the list.

thanks for supplying all that
8= black.. from ignition switch terminal 15, Live with ignition on
does this mean that if this is not supplying voltage to the panel that basically nothing will show up?
or could there be an earth/negative which is failing meaning nothing in the dash panel insert works?

YES In otherwords the dash is 'dead' when you get behind the wheel until you turn that little key. Except.... sidelights on... you'll get instrument illumination, IIRC.
And although I have a little - (minus) sign pencilled into my notes, dear Mr. Haynes decided not to number the third pin (No 3) close to the same area of the diagram as all the rest of the pins he numbered.
Pin 3 is in fact the earth and is (as usual) a brown wire.
I will amend the earlier post forthwith.
