Right, once the Van is back from the garage, it's time to start on the interior.

At the moment, it's completely bare. I want to carpet the floor definitely, and the side opposite the sliding door. The other side has windows (odd I know, last owner had bad neck), so I'm not too fussed about carpeting the whole thing on that side.

My main questions are as above... What is the best wood, carpet, and glue to get? Also, what's the best way to fix everything down etc...

Has anyone got any measurements?

i did this myself recently

i found 1/8 plywood good for the job, light and fairly flexible, you'll get some curves out of it.

for carpet i used these guys www.boyriven.co.uk they have a nice selection of lining carpet, both plain and ribbed.

for glue, i used a spray contact adhesive, i also bought this from boyriven to save postage (cheaper than paying postage from two companies)

You will get a million answers to this....coz for everyone its different. For example, I have a wooden sheet on the floor (not MDF but a composite stuff sold in wickes), which i have sealed with a varnish. I have bought carpet tiles which will not be stuck down too hard as they need to come up when dirty / manky etc. Others swear by vinyl coz they have dogs and kids....my thing with the carpet tiles is the middle compromise.

the wooden floor gives you something to attach the units to....but make sure the wood is screwed down too!!

Do you want a full width bed, or a 3/4. How much storage do you need? Are youy likely to go LPG in the future.

Go round as many vans as poss and take pics of waht you like. Then spend hours planning your interior. Just in the process of doing mine...got a shoddy second hand one which is slowly being renovated and replaced.

You will have fun...you will have tons of decisions, and you will change your mind dozens of times!!!!

Thats a grand job that is George. What's under the headlining carpet m8, or is it straight onto the tin? and is that back piece all one piece or in sections?

there is plywood under the carpet

the top is all one bit, and the each side is one long bit and the joins are covered by the strips of ali running down the sides

We just did our interior with £1.99 a square metre corded carpet from Allied Carpets. Had to rub the rubber off the back which was easy enough and then put it up with some contact adhesive. On the floor we have some laminate that was knocking around at home. There was already a sheet of ply down on the floor, so I just put it on top.

It's not the best job in the world, but will do at the moment seeing that we're having so much else mechanically to do. It's a hell of a lot better than the nasty brown paint that someone had painted the walls and doors.

Bev made the curtains and her step dad recovered the seats. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but the material was only a £1 a metre and again is much better than what was there. It has brightened her up so much, but will be done properly in years to come when the kids have grown up.
