on the way to work today.... cleverly i ignored it... its above the engine temp thingy - over there on the right hand side of the dashboard thingy - you know the dial that tells you if you van is about to explode - but the needle is happily in the middle

so what is this mysterious flashing red sign trying to communicate with me?

regards,

toast

I have come to the conclusion that when your red light flashes its a warning for you to start saving your money to spend on the next thing that breaks on your van :D

If everything else is ok--waterlevel etc, it can be a faulty sensor-the black plastic thing with wires plugged into it screwed into coolant tank in engine compartment--get a new one from vw or gsf--

The large coolant tank should be full to brim at all times--topup tank is behind number plate---if you regularly have to top up you will have a leak-could be anywhere--check all pipes & rad first--

NOT clever at all......
infact, a costly mistook many have made.....

Water level is VERY important, the top up tank ( the one behind the number plate flap should be to the max mark when cold, the header tank , should be completely full ( and never check it unless the engine is cold)

Not checking water level will hit your wallet very hard....
as said..

It will prob run fine right up to the moment it blows apart... :(

top it up and bleed it (Very important, you cannot just put water in!!) check to see where you have a leak.. there are many places as the cooling system is not one of VW's better efforts..
