Ok, i am looking to buy a Devon Pop Top this week to replace my Leisuredrive high top roof. Does anybody know if i will have to cut a bigger hole in the top of the van for the new roof, or will it be fine? A picture from inside a devon conversion would be the best thing for me to look at if anybody can help Please Help!!

Look at the wiki you will see a devon roof fitting job by one of the 80 90 members.I fitted a devon side elevation roof to a panel van .The roof has the metal cut between the roof braces which are needed for the bed boards.

Thank you for the guidance but the thread has been removed from Wiki, there is a guide for a westy roof conversion, but i dont think the same would apply to a side elevating roof like yours, which is the same as im getting! anywhere else i can look???

what is wrong with your hi top ? I have a devon pop top roof but want a hi top ..maybe we could swap ??

There is nothing wrong with it at all julie, its just my mrs doesnt like the look of a high top, and i dont want to sell the van so just thought i would swap the roof!! I dont mind swapping if you want to!!

Ok, i have bought a new roof, and i am picking it up in the week. The wiki thread doesnt work, and i am still none the wiser on what i have to do !! I know that i do have to cut a bigger hole in the roof, but was wondering will i be able to keep the bed base that is already there?

DO NOT cut out the roof cross-bracing level with the back of the sliding door, from memory Devons have the rear sheet panel between the centre and rear braces cut out.

Take out the bracing and you'll have handling limper than Larry Grayson's handshake

Ian's right, keep the braces, I've got a Devon pop top, the roof opens on the side. the roof is removed between the braces in the middle & the rear section, the front section stays. The top bunk is in two haves, one stores over the cab & the other above & behind the rear seat resting on the roof braces.

There is a fibre glass base that fits on to the van roof.The roof bellows and bed boards fit on to it.Ideally this should be separated from the roof cap by removing the pop rivets from the bellows before fitting on to the roof as it makes it easier .This when separated will give an idea of the parameters for where metal is cut and is folded ninety degrees for a snug fit inside the fibre glass base to be pop rivited .As Ian Hulley said do not cut the roof braces as these are required to keep the vans strength and support the bed boards.It took me on my own about a weeks work to cut and fit a devon elevating roof to my ex plumbers panel van.To get good folds for the roof metal there is a purpose made tool for it.
