My B2L Eberspacher is now a runner

Finally at long last my Eber is working properly and i have heat.

Yesterday ( with a small audience of Elvis & Paddywac) i stripped it down and replaced the three sensors/thermal switches, glowplug and made sure the external connectors were all clean. I was very suprised on looking inside the heater, how clean it was, like new. After putting it back together and refitting it back under the van, i turned it on to find there was no heat. The only thing i could think of was the new plug electrode gap was to big (my previous thread) or there was an air lock in the fuel line. The gap was shortened to about the size for a normal spark plug ( hopefully i will find out what it should be) and refitted it, still no heat.

This morning i thought i would give it a serious coat of looking at then check the fuel line and plug again. I flashed it up just to make sure and would you believe it i had constant heat. I carried out futher tests during the day and it's a runner. :D :D When operating i was impressed how quiet it was.

For all those B2L Eberspacher owners out there with faulty heaters, look in the Wiki and follow Irishdavids advice. I had been planning to get a propex, as my heater has never worked properly since i have had it. For the sake of buying a set of car ramps and some new sensors/switches, at less than £40, i now have a good heater.

Big thanks to Irishdavid(especially), Ringo, LHD, T'Onion ,Mocki and Spike for advise.

Just as a quick update to the plug gap... I'm pretty sure it's about 2.5mm. Bit bigger than a conventional spark plug so it does look biggish!
Then again, if it's all working... :D

Thats brilliant news Phil - I cant remember if the wiki says which sensor does what - but you obviously worked it out!

Has LHD sorted his yet?

Thanks for that. I know its working, but how does it affect the performance and should i correct it to the proper gap?

Ringo. The value of the new sensors are slightly higher than those i replaced, it wasn't difficult to do, you only have to read whats on them. Having a manual helps too. Also Elvis was with me.

If its not too much of a problem to change, then have a go with the correct gap, may give a better burn but it will probably open up a bit anyway to be honest.

Glad to hear it POP.
Mines working fine apart from the current draw but that may have been due to poor battery charging.
Now I have a new 100ah battery and a descent charger so if it doesn't come up to scratch I shall change the sensors at D/freeze.
I'v now got it down to about 8 mins to remove the "feck".

Happy to help. To be honest, all my info came from the manual and stripping my own down. There are plenty of people on this forum who are more than capable of doing the same.

I've been thinking about the spark plug gap thing and i reckon it's a fairly easy thing to check. Unlike car spark plugs there is a ground connection on the spark plug which means, as long as all the electrics are connected, the plug is out and the fuel line is disconnected, it will be possible to test the plug when it's outside of the eber. Just MAKE SURE the fuel line is off and fire up the eber with the plug out (held in insulated pliers or dangling) an make sure the spark is good.

I have a b2l to fit into my 1.9 water cooled but I'm unsure where its supposed to mount under the van or where the ducts come through the floor. Has anyone got any photos they could upload of there install as I'm a bit nervous about cutting dirty great holes in the van floor? :?
