Back brakes: drums and shoes
Posted: 10 Feb 2008, 05:53
I've been doing a car maintenance course one evening a week at a local college. For the last few weeks we got to work on our own vehicles so I took the van along. Had the back brakes apart this week and the tutors recommended that new shoes and drums were needed. Shoes are worn and cracked. Drums are far from smooth on the inside, more of a corrugated effect!
I've already ordered new shoes from VW and they cost me £69 with a £15 surcharge (inc. vat). However the drums (which I haven't ordered yet) are going to be £80 each (inc. vat), so I was thinking of getting drums from GSF (£25 each, plus vat).
So my question is; would it be a waste of money getting VW shoes and then putting cheaper drums on? Should I wait till I can afford VW drums?
Very grateful for any thoughts / advice.
