Fixing holes

Hi,

I am looking for advice on fixing some small holes located in my van.

I ripped out all the interior a year or so ago as it was well dated and rotting. There remains some small holes where e.g. the water in and out pipe were located.

I was thinking of welding some plates over these holes but a friend at work said just use fibreglass as they are no where near any structural points. My plan is to cover the holes, paint the whole floor then cover in ply before unfortunately I have to let it go.

Thing is I can't find any useful advice online how to use fibreglass patches etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction? If someone has another idea I'd love to hear it.

I got the van MOT'd last Aug no probs and think I have done 10 miles since!!!! We have our first baby now and the van has to go to buy a 4 door car :( I just dont have time to do anything now.

Thanks for any advice in advance

Russell.

Hi

If its a hole in a large panel then dont weld it as it will distort.

I would suggest using some no more nails to glue a patch on the inside, filler the outside and sand back.

Lots of people will jump up and down at the though of using no more nails but it works a treat, is fast, dosnt distort, cant rust, wont let water in.

My suggestion

Thanks for the advice.

What material should I use for the patch?

Cheers

Or if the holes are not too big, use a nut and bolt with "penny/mudguard washers" clean and hammerite before installing.. and seal if need be...

If it's not too big a hole why not buy a couple of rubber grommets? Treat the hole with rust prevnter or,if clean, brush some paint on. push grommet(s) in and hey presto!

to cover a few unused holes where previous lpg pipes were, and aren't now, i used some stainless sheet, about 0.75mm thick and stuck squares of it over the holes with polyurethane seam sealer, sounds crude but works a treat if done neatly, very hard to prise off again, so should be pretty much permanent, or as said above, rubber blanking grommets with no hole in them are available for round holes of various sizes, from places like Vehicle Wiring products in ilkeston derby's.
