no brake lights before MOT....so changed brake pressure switch as per advise from members.

Couple of weeks later and a drip on the cab carpet......John investigated this morning - there has been a very small leak. Tightened switch some more....but still getting leak from top of switch between the bolt and and the casing....

Place that supplied the switch is exchanging for us no problem, but it hasn't come from a VW dealer (got fed up with their attitude). Is there anything else that could be wrong....last swtich no leaks, just stopped working.

Switch didn't come with a washer, and the old one didn't have one, so assuming no washer? Do we have to out something on the thread as it goes in?

As always, all help gratefully recieved!

worth registering at vagcat - for your model - and checking their brake part diagrams to see - no missing o ring or washer that may be preventing a 100% tight fit n no leak?

Taper thread

If my memory serves me right, these brake light switches are a taper thread into the master cylinder so no washers.
If the body of the switch starts leaking it's just a faulty switch and you had bad luck.
They were prone on all early VW's for failing but not leaking.
I suppose you could use some PTFE tape on the threads but I've never had the need to use it.
You can normally change this switch without the need to bleed the brakes but be quick!
