Its an Ikea Hi top 5 speed dg 1.9, have found fuel in the oil (previous posts pointed to fuel pump)
Haynes says its a sealed unit, ie no dismantle and gives it 2 spanners so I reckon I can manage that. So as per Haynes destructions removal all gos well .Almost too well , not very tight and there weren't any gaskets?! could this be the problem?! , petrol still pumping out pretty strong when manually pushing the thingummy at the bottom , any and all help as always gratefully received

Good one for having a go. The gaskets that should have been there are to stop the engine oil escaping from the engine & down the side of the engine, not to stop fuel going in.

If you have petrol in your oil (change the oil might be a good idea if you're not sure how much is in there), then it's most likely the diagphram in the pump that's failed causing it to leak into the block. The pump will still work with this small leak though.

If you keep the fuel lines connected, undo the pump from the block & pump it by hand, does petrol run down the pump lever?

Pumps aren't very expensive & it should be a fairly quick job if you have the right tools. Make sure that the fuel lines are connected properly i.e. tight enough not to be able to twist them around, but don't over tighten them or it will bugger the clips!

The cost of a new Pierburg fuel pump (OEM) for a 1.9DG engine is around £45 from JK or around £31.50 + VAT from GSF. The GSF price is with 10% club 80-90 discount & it should work out at £38(ish).
