Unless you're van's in very good nick underneath be very afraid, cos the bolts may be now part of the wheel arch  AND it's next to the seatbelt bottom mount :!:

yep, two each side........
why you taking them off, welding access?

no welding,, i just wanted to clean them up, looking at the etka diagrams there seems to be a float valve or sometthing on the top and a 3rd pipe from it, I get a petrol smell and i think i have done most of the other usual suspects,, i take it removal may be a bad idea...?

you shouldnt need to take them off to solve the smell prob, itsll be one of the hoses perished, or all of them....... just beware they hide a lot of crap, which maywell be housing a squad of tin worm

I've looked and not touched, yet, for all the reasons the others state.

I had a strong petrol smell when the tanks full. I decided to change the rubber coller round the filler pipe as it looked old. That reduced the smell considerably. My next port of call is to replace the hoses to the expansion tanks to hopefully effect a full cure. I've been told to take great care as the expansion bottles 'nipples' get brittle (bless!).

i jet washed around my tanks, looks solid enough lots of cac trapped around them, i didnt take them off in the end as i could only see 1 nut near the seatbelt bolt, so gawd knows where the other nut/bolt is, I did buy some 5.5mm hose from my local motor factor and changed the hoese from the tanks ,
