Engine identification?

I'm confused now. Today I got to have a very close look at my engine for the first time (not had time/need/weather together!) and now I'm not at all sure what it is!

I noticed to begin with that the air ducting on top of the carb didn't seem to be fixed down properly - no nut/bolt in the top. Closer inspection showed that it couldn't be fastened by a nut in that position, and further inspection of the HBOL tells me that I have a Solex carb and ducting for a Pierburg. Hmmm. So do I have a full DF engine or has someone put a Solex on a DG? How can I tell without taking it apart?

the inlet manifold is different for a dg, than a df, a picture or two will help.
the airinlet "cap" has 3 bolts on peirburgh.

OK, thanks for that. After some searching with a torch I found "DG" stamped by the breather - so the engine is what I thought it was, but it's definitely a Solex 34PICT carb.

Now presumably the Pierburg is fitted to the DG because it breathes better? Would I be better sourcing and fitting one of those?

Pics here - not that good as it was getting dark and I had to use flash.

Oddly enough while browsing the HBOL I realised my bus has a non-standard exhaust too - why is maybe why it's so bloody loud! What's this all about - is it helping or should I ditch it for a standard single silencer?

You have a 1.9 DG with an early cooling system and early type exhaust with a 'sportspack' or similar silencer.
