Doing a jx to 1y+turbo conversion at the mo- Anyone know if its possible to use the original curved jx dipstick. The jx one came out the block easily but the 1y is much tighter. Is this bonded in? any adive on how to get it out appreciated.....ta

Yes it fits but will need calibrating. The easiet way to get the 1Y one out is to knock it out when you have the sump off, its a tight fit.

My 1.9 TDI stick didnt even register when I added 4.5ltrs of oil, very odd feeling driving around with a dry dipstick.......
Soon sorted it out.

I modified a stick from an Aircooled T2......works a treat......

here's my experience thus far-
the dipstick on the 1.9l 1y engine runs through a casing which is splined into the block. This needed tapping out and was a tight fit

The dipstick hole in the block of the 1y is bigger than that of the 1.6 block so I put a copper tube sleeve (10mm) into the hole after flaring the top end with a brake pipe flaring tool. I smeared aroldite bonding on the top half of the tube and tapped it home. I then cut and filed down the gasket side of the tube and finished with emery. The curved 1.6 dipstick now fits tightly in the hole and I will bond this in to finish. Not forgeting to re-calibrate of course.

wish i had gone down that route, but i didnt have the time,so i removed the 1y dipstick tube and shortened it until the stick just touched sump bottom, then re-calibrated it with fresh oil.........
