I have a huge flatspot on my pierburg on 1.9 engine, just as you touch the throttle, sometimes it'll even stop the engine, any ideas?

Also can anyone recommend someone who does a complete refurb ? I have three pierburgs and would like one completely sound one

Could be fuel filter.
Muck in the reservoir of the carb.
Also check the rubber boot between the filler cap and the neck to the tank as these can perish.
Can't help with the re-furb bit though I'm afraid.

it's definitely a carb issue, as the carb that came off wasn't doing this.

Thanks for the response though

Maybe I'd better start looking at a JK weber ( when they have more in ) unless someone has any good alternative ideas

Sounds exactly like the vac advance unit on the dizzy faulty or not getting its signal... check the vac unit by sucking on the pipe (shouldnt be able to suck constantly) and then check the connections... could have been put back on in the wrong place...!!

If it isnt that.. then accel pump diaphragm can give similar problems, but usually that means petrol leaking out of the carb too....!!

vac working, tested first as that's what I thought it was too, must be accel pump, although no leaks :(

Laurie petit was doing some alternative carbs for WBX, anyone tried any?

This sort of fault was driving me mad on our 1.9 DG camper, till I found the choke 'Pull down unit' was goosed.

I got one off that Baxter chap, as VW don't do em anymore.

That's why ideally I'd like to get my carb off to an expert, who can give it a total going over , sort of gulping at the thought of laying out £350 for a JK one

i spoke to lauri about his conversions and they sound great.he was doing a pair of solex bisa for 280 and a pair of dell 36 for about 400 if my memory is right. the kits came with all the bits you needed manifolds, linkages and plugs to blank off water hoses to old carb. i however went for a pair of dell drla40 and cannot recomend them enough, you will get loads more power and no worse mpg.they also sound incredible in the van when you give it the berries :D

Before you start spending money, remove top half of carb-can be done in situ--clean out float bowl & blast out all jets with aerolsol carb cleaner--you could replace gasket between the 2 halves but base gasket should be ok if you leave bottom half in place--
