If i flash my lights (without lamps on) the LED on my dash lights up.
If i put my Hi beams on it doesn't
Didn't used to matter when I had stock system but now i've got decent bulbs and relays.
it's an '85 Bus, any ideas?

Humm, sounds very odd! Does your van have early fuses or the later blade fuses? I think thats the year they changed.
Has the main beam bulb not worked since adding the relays or has it always been like that? How did you wire up the relays?
Originally the main beam bulb would have been wired in parallel to ONE of the main beam headlights (left or right) and so if the wireing for that side isn't working properly the lamp won't work even if the other side does. If both lights are now run by relays activated from the wires from 1 side this could mask the problem. Can't think of anything on the standard system that should cause this problem with the warning lamp but still light the headlamps, but being electrics theres got to be a logincal resion somewhere.

think you caught it off mine t'other night! I haven't investigated mine yet. might get round to a bit of probing at the weekend.
please stay away from other van's until the infectious phase has passed.

Not sure if this is going to help but the main beam warning lamp runs from the left hand side headlamp after the fuse (fuse number 5 on mine). Fuse number 6 is for the right hand side. Bear in mind that this fuse arrangement is for the bullet type fuses (early type).

's'always been like this, even pre-relays, I have old fashioned bullet fuses, they're all ok.
relays are wired to one side of the original lamp circuit, with one relay for hi-beam running both lamps and one for mains. Lamps are driven from a new secondary fuse box.
I'll bear in mind the fact that I may have made the problem harder to fix now that I've effectively cut one of the switched circuits out. Cheers for the info.
Skell, don't drive any of yours out of sussex, they'll have to go into quarantine
