Currently my high beam warning light doesn't work.

I'm hoping that is just the bulb that has gone.

What type of buld do I need to replace this, so I can get one before I start?

Is it a stright forward job to replace?

cheers

Assuming you have a standard dash set up:

357 919 062
This part number from VW, its an LED with a blue cap. Not actually fitted mine yet but confident. Will take a few days to order. Hope this helps,

Myk.

is it a push fit or does it need soldering?

Its a push fit.

Strangly though when I took mine out, which I have replaced since with a blue LED, my bulb was in the shape of an LED but was in fact a normal lamp with fillament! Thought that was a bit cheeky! Explains why it blew anyway!

It's a filament lamp, because blue LEDs weren't around in the 80's, so VW had no choice!

My van appears to have a yellow LED in place of the blue lamp, and given that it has an MOT I suspect all you need is "full beam indicator" rather than "BLUE full beam indicator" ?

Mine is definitely an LED. I thought all post 85 vans had LEDs. They used a yellow style bulb with a blue plastic casing.

All of mine were LEDs eg. the oil pressure and charging lamps apart from the blue high beam lamp which, as said above, was a filament lamp with a blue cap over the top, made to look like an LED.

I did a direct swap for a blue LED when I had to replace mine although I did make a mistake of not getting a fairly low brightness one and I currently half blind myself every time I use main beam! Going to change that soon me thinks! :?

from what i have seen ,
early vans used yellow/amber leds , later vans use a bulb with a blue cap

you do not need an indicator for main beam for the mot , it is not part of the test to check it or have one!

Blue travels the furthest in the spectrum - apparently why blue is used for emergency vehicles etc. I had the same problem with being blinded by a blue LED (even the low brightess ones) and had to dip mine in black paint first to get it looking right but it does make sense to upgrade.

I put a blue illuminated toggle switch in my van for my fog lights and the damn thing is far too bright. I even covered it with a little blue bulb cover I originally had on my dashboard lights and its still too bright. Ill paint it black next time I get the opportunity.
