Following insuance renewal I have to have a secondary security device so I am thinking of fitting a alarm it does not have to be insuance approved but needs a reliable one and I don't want to speed much money i already have a steering wheel lock but as i have a big wheel it does not fit well and forget to fit it every time
Any recommendations

matty o, please do not discuss the security devices fitted/to be fitted to your van in 'Technical' as you never know who is reading your post.

It is safer to post in 'Members Only' but even then only give brief details. It is far better to get advice etc from other 80-90ers by PM.

as for alram rec, i had a sigma thing in my old one, insurance approved etc, but cost about £300, on the plus side it bleeped when you armed it and for another £20 i got a central lockig kit for the forunt doors!

have a look at ebay there are usually some good ones to be had on there for under £50!

It has become the accepted thing to do on the 80-90 forum to redirect all van security discussions to 'Members Only'. I just politely pointed out this fact to matty o.

sorry but dave was right in the first place the guy is asking about general alarms not how do i break into everyones vans and what are the weak pionts!!!!!

Matty where do you live? do you leave your keys under the plant pot? do you have a pedigree dog? is your van in good nic? I would have pm,d you but I dont know you!

I thought all I asked was for any recommendations for a alarm not what have you got where do you live etc
If someone wanted to steel a van its not what you got it's the fact you have one that may slow the thief down and I don't think that the intelligence of the common thief would be thinking of using this means to track down a van and if they were a alarm is not going to stop them

http://www.toadalarm.com/ I got an alram from these people its not an approved one but noone has tried to nick my van since I emailed them first asking for advice on best alarm and they phoned me back and talked me through the best alarm at a more budget price for my van. A chap came out to my place of work and fitted it then gave me his number incase I had any problems. I thought the service was very good and the alarm is perfect for me and my van.

I was'nt refering to Matty asking questions I was refering to Bolton lad suggesting that 'Maybe someone would know Matty's van and and would use the info to steal it! is a bit OTT! Sorry for the confusion!

Members Only is safer? What makes it any safer? There is no security check before a member number is issued. If thieves are lurking here, they are on MO too! As for pm's being safer, depends on who wants the info. Are they a thief or a honest person? And just because they own or claim to own a van doesn't make them honest. Maybe I'm paranoid, but they could be theives.
