Does anyone else have trouble fitting in a standard sized radio in their T25? Mine is sticking out at the moment 'cos if I shove it all the way back it will damage the heater cables. Am thinking about getting an older one, but I have no idea if they are any smaller

Most of us who have upgraded the head unit have found the newer ones are difficult to push all the way home in the slot .

However with a little spacer between the radio and the dash all is well.

7 to 8mm should be enough

there are of course Head units that do fit albeit tight and with special plugs for the rear of the radio that turn at 90 deg

A pioneer MP30 DEH for instance

the reason they don't go all the way in is the Blower motor housing behind the dash.

I have never tried to fit one that's too long, but with the standard ones it helps no end if you tuck the cables down und under thbe radio body as you slide it in, my one is tight but just clips in if I guide the wires down and under whilst sliding it in, and also a right angled antenna plug helps, as the rt hon member for the black country said above.

I've fitted 3 radios in a T3 dash, all went in fine sitting flush with the dash. They were a Sony (MD headunit), a Blaupunkt Woodstock (CD), and an old Blaupunkt London 37 (80's caravelle original radio).

The Sony probubly wouldn't fit with a CD changer as sony's cable system is quite bulky.

In all cases I found removing the ashtray above the radio essenchal so you can reach in and push the heater cables out the way (they only just get in the wayand tolorate being shifted a bit) and guide the wires into place as the radio locks in. Once the radio is nicely fitted, back goes the ashtray and all looks tidy.

Clearance round the back of the radios once fitted is tight but I suspect there aren't many so deap they won't actully fit. The issue is more likely to be they won't fit with the cables attached, worth bearing in mind if you try measureing a radio.

What you need is an Aircooled van... no pesky blower to get in the way!

No heat from the heaters either, mind...

Well in my Aircooled the heater gubbins still gets in the way a little in spite of no blower.

Mine too, and she's Aircooled. Mind you, the mechanic once gave me the choice 'you can either have it permenantly blowing cold or hot, not both'. I chose hot and open the window in the summer

I've read the t25 forums since I got mine in 06 and have seen various posts on this problem but my van had a sony single disc head unit fitted already which I replaced with the jvc unit and 12 disc changer out of my bay, over xmas I have just fitted a new jvc dvd unit with more wires coming out of the back than a house (as well as the usual it has the thick cables for subwoofer/amp/reversing camera/steering wheel remote/video in/video out/audio out/cd changer/etc/etc/etc),it has the built in amp and a fan in the rear but it still fits in the space.

is there a certain make that don't fit???

I've got this issue at the mo' too - the head unit just about fitted until I wanted to plug in some Audio/RCA leads for Heather's Ipod, so I've got to find a spacer but I'm not keen on the idea as it looks less secure sticking out and what about knuckles on gear changes?

Mine is secured at the back with a cable tie between a bracket bolted to the stereo and some part of the gubbins near the bulkhead - all accessed down the ashtray hole.
And you need to fit a 'short shifter' to avoid bangedknucklitis!

Mine has a spacer for the very same reason Leon and the gearchanging is not an issue
as for secure if you mean dropping out by itself I can assure you it won't.

as for a thief well...I hope you remove the face to deter that

always remove the face mate (we need to keep a picture of intelligence people from the west mids mate, lets not let it be lowered )
