How hard is it to fit a complete exhaust on a T25.

The quotes range from £653 to £937 fitted.

So I just brought a complete system and doing it myself.What are the pit falls????????????

I have only done an Air-Cooled.
The biggy is to take you time removing the bolts to the engine.

That is the only real problem you may have(open to the elements) Nuts tend to rust on. Give them a good 24hr soaking in oil should help.

The quotes range from £653 to £937 fitted .Ridicules prices get a haynes manual & some plus gas penetration fluid.

And then when the studs shear off and you have to take the engine out to drill and tap them out you can look back at this and get these peeps to come and help you

A cheap late DG exhaust costs about £250 but it CAN go horribly wrong, many garages will not even touch them.

Started to soak the exhaust "nuts" in oil today. Will start soak them every day for a couple of days ,also found my nut splinter and stud extractor tool just in case.

I`ve never done a t25 exhaust but I have done a fair few motorcycle exhausts.
A bike exhaust is even more exposed to the elements than a VW exhaust and can be an absolute swine to remove, however, years ago I was given a tip of running the engines on the bikes upto temperature and then remove the exhaust!
It has never failed me. No sheared studs, no rounded nuts!
If you think about it when you go to Kwik-fit type places you arrive with a hot engine and they never have any problems removing the exhaust.

Be careful not to touch the hot engine, obviously it will hurt if you do

Listen ..... DO NOT GO NEAR $HITFIT WITH YOUR VAN !!! ... OK, maybe at a push for an emergency tyre.

They usually employ the rejects from B&Q, who are in turn the rejects from McDonalds. Working on these vans is a specialist art in itself ... these Gibbons are used to swinging on Corsas and Focus's.

Put it this way .... a badly broken off stud can scrap a head, the removal of which can shear a head stud which in turn can scrap the engine crankcase. All because some silt-dweller with an oxy-acetylene set couldn't get the pointy remains of an exhaust stud out.

Please don't lie awake at nights ..... or at least TRY not to !

I took my old T25 to simon baxter of brickyard fame.
He did a excellent job of fitting a new exhaust system at a very reasonable price.

The thought of me and a mate attempting it on my drive in the november wind and rain did not bear thinking about!!.

Give simon a ring. He is a very nice bloke and will do a good job for you.
