vibration in second gear?

Hiya,

My 1.9 dg syncro has got a strange vibration that only occurs in second gear in overrun (engine braking) at fairly high revs.

Any ideas?

It seems restricted to quite a tight rev band but is quite noisy with the sound seeming to come from the rear somewhere... As far as I can tell from the drivers seat anyway.

Do I check them by just giving them a good tug/wobble?

Best to remove prop, chaeck for play in joints at tight spots.

front driveshaft outer cv probably the one you least suspect, check for any but lateral play, one of mine is going and does this, but it also clicks loudly on full lock low speed cold. I'll have time next week to swap it out honest, darling

Hiya,

Update on vibration/ noise.

The noise is in all gears at a fixed very narrow rev range. So definately engine side of clutch rather than running gear side. Sounds a bit like tinware vibrating, this all feels tight though...

The noise is coming from dead centre somewhere behind the engine hump bulkhead, anything "tinny" by the fuel tank (Syncro remember) that might vibrate loudly? I couldn't see anything from the engine bay.

suggestions?

Ta, Dave.
