Hi
Could anyone shed some light on the above engine ?
ie is it n/a td or tdi. How good a replacement would this be for a 1.6td?

Have done some research in the alt' engine threads but can only seem to find reference to the AAZ.
thanks

Not powerfull enough for a syncro.Non turbo 1.9D.
A 1Y dose not have a fly by wire setup as said on the link above.

Cheers for the replies,
another few questions if I may- is it possible to take off the components from the 1.6td and put them on to the 1Y 1.9 to create a 1.9td.

Got the 1Y cheap (very) and wonder whether it could make a good base engine. Ultimately, I would like to squeeze about 130bhp from the 1.9 (after doing the syncro g/box obviously) I understand the block on the 1.9s are similar. What would need to be done to realise the power I would like.
thanks

Yes easilly done, you need a 1.9td injection pump and then swop exhaust manifold. Only down side is gugdeon pin on 1.9 n/a's is smaller than td so 130 bhp maybe pushing it.

excellent info Andy.....ta!
ok so new conrods/pistons to be safe with the desired 130
could I get this power through the td injector pump? and how about the turbo.... would I get the necessary boost to get the power up or is an alternative turbo in order

To get anything near or over 100bhp you will have to do substancial work
to an AAZ.
U will loose reliability but worst of all ure feul consumption will be extreemly extreemly bad not to mention the build cost.
You are far better of with a TDI and far more reliable.
