I cant get a socket to grip on the sump plug on my 1983 2.0l air cooled devon camper. the previous owner has managed to round the nut off. Any suggestions? I know I can undo the oil strainer, but ultmately I still need to undo the sump plug.

Grab it with a dirty great Mole wrench?
Or whack a slightly smaller socket on to it (impact one if poss - black usually)
Grind flats on it and use a spanner.
Weld something on to it you can get a grip on - a nut maybe?
Apart from that I've no idea...

Yup, No.1 alright, and the others in good order of seriousness... :)

But that Mole-grip needs to be a good one, US made pref., Chinese crappy moles are no-good at all.
Wiki suggests trying a Stillson if Moles slip, works for me frequently...

firehawk, same as mine mate... got mine off with a 'meterinch' spanner... they fit af and metric. i.e 13mm 1/2"" . they work on the flats, not the edges of nuts..... bit old now so you may struggle to get one. i think that annoying company JML the stuff you see in woolies do a "universal" socket thing that will prob help....
