DOH! difflock Q

Hi,
Season's greetings if that's PC.
I had to change my starter but stupidly lost the pin attaching the actuator rod to the difflock shaft.
My questions until I get a pin: Does the difflock stay disengaged as default and if not, what should the position of the shaft be, in or out?
I cannot simply check if the light comes on because I don't know if that works as I've never used it yet!
Many thanks,
Tony

IIRC, you want the shaft pulled out for it to be disengaged.
The actuator puts a large pushing force onto the shaft so that once the splines line up they lock together.
I would imagine that you could get the shaft pulled out and bodge something up to hold it there until you have a new roll pin.
It probably wouldn't engage anyway, without the force to push them together, but might be best to be safe than sorry.

By default its out, or wouldn't go in without a constant pushing force, so all will be well, as long as pushrod not 'jammed' in, which is unlikely.

Thanks guys,
Yes it's out by default, some sort of spring mechanism pushing the shaft out.
Once again, many thanks.

some sort of spring mechanism pushing the shaft out.
If you can feel that and it actually works, then the mecahnism, shaft and bushing should be in good condition
