Hi all,

I am after the large diameter flexible hoses that connect to the heat exchangers under the van - does anyone know where I can get these from as mine are somewhat dead!

If mine go, that's where I'll be trying, or maybe B&Q, somewhere like that. I also wonder if that blue hose that you see cable layers use is a similar diameter? I suppose if push came to shove you could use drain pipe with a piece of flexi at the ends.

drain pipe would melt!!!!
the Aircooled pipes are bakalite with special flexi sections!!!
find a breaker like volksheaven, they will have what you need.
keep it stock keep it simple. the heat my ol Aircooled could produce was awesome!!!!

Im with Jason if you can keep it stock, I have a 2ltr CU Aircooled and although it took half a day to sort its worth sticking with the original kit.

Upto now the specific pipe I'm looking for the the large flexible that runs over the gear box and joins into the 2-into-1 on the left hand side of the box.

as for going with and staying original, I kind of plan todo that apart from the engine is a CT 1600 block but now has 1900 barrels and pistons on it - or so the previoius owner told me - until I finish the welding in the engine bay area I can't verify this for sure - I have yet to check into the tinware to see if this has been bastardised in any fashion but on 1st glance it seems original and a bit worn.

This is just my honest opinion...

Stop... unless you are sure that engine is in very good health (and I doubt it has 1900 barrels as thats not a popular size for a type 1 Aircooled engine for more than several reasons... basically if it looks standard and running the standard single carb and the engine is oily and scruffy.. it wont have had a large amount of money spent making it into a "1900" which would cost quite a bit if it were possible and worth the effort)
Dont spend any money on it... the 1600 CT was pretty poor when shiney and new I am afraid and 25 years of abuse doesnt make then better...

Check the actual engine number and see if it is a CT..

Instead search out a good 2L CU with all tinware etc and fit that.. the heating system is a bit different at the engine end so any parts you buy for the 1.6CT most likely wont be usable with the 2L

Thanks for the tip there - I'll look into the CU lump possibility - xmas spending may have put it out the the question for a few months though!

As mentioned; the story from the previous was the existing CT lump was a 1600 but the engine case was machined out to take some 1900 barrels he had imported from Brazil - why he went to this length he didn't really explain; if you ask me he could have bought another engine from the sounds of the pain and time he spent on the lump.

Looking around the engine itself it clear it has had a lot of work done on it (he just gave up with it when he started on the bodywork and decided he wanted an extension to the house where the van lived) and has twin carbs )not sure which ones as I have not inspected them yet), and a remote oil cooler/pump and filter setup. I'll try and dig out a pic of it and lob it in this post so you can see - although they are not very good pic's

Mmmm... yes an awefull lot of effort for the CT... deffo would have been cheaper and easier to fit a CU instead of all that hassle...

But you must get it looked at and set up well..

look on fleabay for someone selling eberspacher hot air ducting,, you can get it in various sizes and it works fine on mine
