Hi folks, got a 1.6td which i'm having some starting issues with, however yesterday in the process of sorting that out I noticed that the alternator belt was slipping as the engine started. This could be why the battery seems to be giving up so uqickly when i'm trying to start.

So...what size belt should i have? Do they stretch over time?

cheers, :D

From page 33 of the 2007 JK Catalogue:-

All Diesel (10 x 600) >7/85 45/65amp >9/88 plus 90amp

J10206 OEM £3.50

Yes, they do stretch & have to be re-tensioned after a few hundred miles.

Thanks for that. I remember that there were some problems last time it was replaced - one snapped somewhere in Cheshire and the local garage fitted a new one but said that they'd had to adjust something qute a lot to make the part fit (the list part that is).

Check the belt you`ve got, and replace it with a new one. Some listings on JK for TD belts are wrong, I think 600 length is to short, was for mine, which has power steering.

The only listing for diesel alternator belts in the JK Catalogue is the one I have posted above. It just states ''All Diesel.........'' but it doesn't actually mention TD belts as such.

I've just been looking at the JK website & the listing for 'Alternator V Belt'
part No.J10206 gives a few extra words/figures. ie. Diesels/Turbo Diesels >8/85. So, if Suedehead has a TD built after 8/85 then this belt won't fit.
What year is your van, Suedehead? :)
