MOT fail

bah! small hole in inner trailing arm mounting point of chassis guy reckons he can weld a plate on to fix, what do you think? Does the arm have to come off? its got some rubber bits in there so I would have thought so.

nah if a welder ses he can do it let him do it. suprising how localised the heat is with a mig,, not like the old gas welding days :roll:

Do you trust the quality of welding? I've seen some really crap "MOT standard" welding - often it needs doing again a year later, by which time it's worse. Make sure it's finished properly with primer & paint, not just coated in underseal, as that's another guaranteed rust-through-in-a-year job.

It's not an area I'm too familiar with (yet!), but doing a good welding job in a confined space is tricky, especially the preparation. And having done many hours of MIG welding, I wouldn't really describe the heat as localised! In fact it gets a damned sight hotter than gas, which in turn makes the weld harder (a gas weld can be planished flat with a hammer, a mig weld has to be ground to get it flat).
