do i need a new reservoir cap?

eyup ducks n merry christmas to you all.the missus runs a 1.9 n/a diesel 1y in her van,and i have to top the reservoir up in the engine bay every couple of months,but the water never seems to dissapear from the lil' tank behind the number plate,but its always up to the bottom of the cap....any ideas oh gracious ones or should i be glad i only have to top it up 3-4 times a year,bearing in mind that it is the missus' daily driver and does serious miles every week..kindest regards hohohohohohoho

Could be a faulty pressure cap (blue Darlek) not allowing the coolant to flow back to the top tank when it cools down.

Mine had this problem, and (unfortunately) it turned out to be a cracked cylinder head :( It was pressurising the system when running and pushing coolant out, and then when stopped and cold it was still holding the pressure in, which never allowed any coolant to flow back into the top tank.

Think that`s the old style tank? Only ever seen plastic screw-on caps, which are notorious for being a problem, always buy genuine VW cap for piece of mind :)
