engine............ valves, piston or ?

:? Ok, I thought it was the piston but today I actually to the cam cover off and there is a silver disk lose in the cover :?
Could it be that it is only the valve set up that has said Bye Bye?
Or do I really have to go down the line of replacing pistons etc :?
If you have had this problem or you are in the know please let me know so that I may stop worrying soooooooo much!!!

Hello Kev and others,
I went for my MOT and on the way there number 4 piston lost all compression.
Had my injectors checked, not good news, had them recondedededed, -£100+. No change!
So I then thought the worse and its the piston rings..... I now have a replacement CS, thanks to Mr Addict, and while waiting for the WD to soak in I removed the rocker cover and found a metal disk from piston number 4.
Part of the valve set up me thinks? but from where?

no expert ...just guessing ...

the silver disk could be one of the little washers that are used to set the valve lift.

get it looket at (without driving there)

Bent valve, sticking valve or broken valve spring, dropped valve seat.

very odd to throw a shim. before you take drastic measures try refitting the shim. its unlikely thats all thats wrong with it but its worth a try as long as you cant see any thing else wrong in there.

if inlet valve isn`t opening it will have very low compression.

good luck.

It simply can't come out without something being very wrong, head needs to come off to find cause.

It sounds to me like your valve is stuck down (I dont know why in this case the valve wouldnt have hit the piston but anyhow) and the shim popped out cause the cam lobe wasnt touching it to hold it in place.

what you see is a shim...

don't replace and try again, the head has gotta come off.. don't mess about, get that head off

then you're on with

Valve guides, values, tappets.. May as well do a full head job whilst you are there
