Getting Hot

I have a bit of problem with my van 90 2.1 DJ auto
the temp gauage rises to the top when driving or standing
only when the heater and the rear blower are put on does the temp drop to the middle
Im sure its the thermo but problem is i have cross threaded the bleed screw on the radiator and i can't get it off
I intend open the thermo up and chop the inside out as a temp solution so it runs free and later fit a new radiator(its looks likes its on its last legs getting green on the edges) thermo and gearbox cooler (its rusty dont want to clog up a new radiator) when funds allow!
But the problem is how do i bleed the thing in the meantime?
Will jacking up the back do?
Has any one else cross threaded the bolt on the radiator, is it the bolt's thread that gets damaged (cheap fix) or it the radiator(expensive)
thanks!
