URGENT HELP! belts?

Hello All 1st post an all that, hoping someone can help.

i have a 1985 1.6 deisel n/a Panel van, driving home the other night and the battery light came on and the temp gauge started flashing.
got out and found that the fan belt had come off, no problem i though and i went and got one from halfords.
this is where the fun started.
i have 3 pulleys the alternator one on the top, then it looks like the water pump underneath that then the crank? under that.
the belt they gave me fits fine between the alternator and the waterpump, but the thing is there is a double pulley on the bottom(crank), and nothing from that to anywhere else, if i fitted a belt from that to the water pump then there is nowhere to put another one to the alternator above. i turned it over and no movement obvioulsy there should be a belt from the crank to turn them but all 3 pulleys are in line and i just can't figure it out, there is an offset to them so i cant work out how one belt would do all three.
i'm getting a bit desperate, i'll try and post a picture in a bit, but if anyone can shed some light i'd be massively greatful.

thanks in advance
phil

Some 1.6n/td have two belts others have one.To fit a two belt the water pump has shims fitted between one pulley on it to adjust belt tension to the crankshaft bottom pulley.A second belt is fitted on a pulley off the water pump to the alternator which is adjusted for tension at the alternator end.Sounds like yours is a single belt which fits over the crankshaft bottom pulley then over the alternater pulley and the V in the belt engages against the water pump pulley which is in line.Belt tension against the water pump pulley / and for the alternator is adjusted at the alternator end.

thanks for the reply, i've added some pictures, does anyone know how long the belt would be to go all the way round all 3?

this one from above with the new belt in place.

Looking at your picts it looks like one of the belts that would have been fitted for the two belt shimmed pulley. This would not be long enough for yours which i think is single belt arrangement.I have checked the single gates belt part no which is fitted around the bottom and alternater pulley and engages the pulley on my 1.6td.Its a gates belt part number 6263MC sorry i carnt see the length marked on the belt.Gsfcarparts check out there website it could be 10x875 part number 13340 .

thanks again, the correct length was 875 i got one now, seems as though the alternator has seized, but only under load suprisingly?
i have the correct belt now looking for an alternator.
thanks for your help so far.
