Adding a turbo?

Ok, here goes-
Forgive me if this is an absolutely stupid question, but I know nothiong about engines.
I currently have a stock 1600 Diesel CS engine in, which to put it mildly lacks power.
Is it technically possible/ feasible /practical to add a turbo to this engine or does it require a complete engine change?
Like I said, I know nothing about engines, I'm just trying to weigh up all my options.

nowt wrong with wanting to add a turbo..VW did to the 1600 diesel.
It may however be easier to get a 1.6 turbo and transplant it
the engine your after would be a ..
JX 1.6l 4-cyl. turbo Diesel from '85on providing 51Kw or 70bhp.
yours provides 50bhp .....allegedly

Anything is possible

There are a few differences between the non-turbo engine and the turbo-charged one though, main thing is to do with internal cooling, with oil-spray jets to keep the pistons cool, amd also some component differences like valves to stop the extra heat wrecking them
If you want more power, maybe look for a good 1.6 JX turbo motor like the Rev said, or if you are going to the trouble of an engine swap, maybe look at putting in a decent 1.9 TD engine (the AAZ engine is the easiest to fit, from a Passat of Golf) there is absolutely loadsa info on doing this swap, so search for AAZ and read up. If you arn`t capable of doing it yourself, there are a few people, some on this forum, who can do it for the right price

Thankyou for the replies.
Will probably do all the other little jobs on the van that need to be done first, before I think about changing the engine.

Adding a turbo will initailly work but in the long run it will end in tears.
Buy the right engine.
