problem with wireing to the door switch is if you pull over and dive in the back for a kip or exit side door then you dont get the buzz.
if you use the +ve from the lights to +ve to the buzzer and
you use the +ve from the ignition to -ve to the buzzer then
when you leave lights on and turn off ign the +ve of the ignition turns to -ve and the buzzer sounds switch lights off and all is quiet.

Does that not mean you have a +ve to +ve via the buzzer? to my (limited) electrical knowledge that doesn't sound like a good idea to me, is it not a problem feeding two +ves to an electrical device?

Its been a long time and its theory only, I have not tested this.
Voltage is the difference of electrical potential between two points of an electrical or electronic circuit. If both sides of the buzzer are 12V then the voltage across the buzzer is 0V. In therory this is a top idea, Im going to change mine over today.

it will only work if the ignition feed becomes -ve when it's turned off, let us know how you get on,

right see if this makes sence.
take a bulb style 12 volt circuit tester (available cheaply if you havent got one)and connect the cliped end to a good earth. ie body of van.
use pointy end to test for a 12 volt live when you turn the side lights on (light switch one click). the tester will light up when you find a 12 volt live.( behind the light switch is probally the easyist to find it)
then switch side lights on and off whilst tester is connected and observe the tester go on and off the same as the side lights do.
the 12v +ve connecter on your buzzer needs connecting to this wire. part one done.
then use same method to find ignition live at the rear of the ignition switch (there`ll be wires at the other end of where the key goes in)switch key to position one and test for live. when found and with the tester connected switch the key on and off to confirm that the tester goes on and off.
connect the -ve connecter on the buzzer to this wire job done.
start engine and switch lights on.
turn engine off with lights on and pull key out buzzer should sound. switch light off buzzer should silence.
if you get any smoke / fire, or sparks then you`ve done it wrong disconnect the battery and un do what yuo`ve done

You will have a grey/black wire out of back of light switch connect buzzer positive to this. You will have a black wire at back of igintion switch connect negative buzzer to this, job done.
